The Broome Surf Life Saving Club is a traditional surf club involved in delivery a number of services to the community. The prime focus is to provide a safe swimming environment by providing voluntary patrols on Sundays from May through to mid October.
Cable Beach is a relatively safe beach but it develops the potential to put weak or unaware swimmers at risk particularly on spring tides. The large increase in Broome’s popularity and growing tourist population will ensure the continued need for the Australian icon of red and yellow capped lifesavers to be a permanent sight on Cable Beach.
Patrolling the beach to safeguard the public from the dangers of surf and performing any required rescues is the main function of the surf club and the reason for it being in existence. To be a patrolling surf lifesaver is one of the most rewarding volunteer jobs in an organisation that is an Australian institution.
All active members are expected to make every effort in honouring their patrol commitments and obligations for the season.
