Our Youth

Broome SLSC Youth (previously 'Cadets') are aged 14 to 17 and get involved in two key areas of the club - patrols and competition.  Over time, our Youth members are required to gain their Surf Rescue Certificate and Bronze medallion, and become active patrolling members of the club.

During the season on Sunday mornings, points events are held on Cable Beach and consist of swim, board, flags and beach sprints.  These events are handicapped.  Information on trophy events and annual club championships can be found on our Club Calendar, with a full list and description found in the Broome SLSC Constitution.

All Youth members are encouraged to be involved in the weekly Sunday events. As part of being a patrolling member, fitness (including ocean swimming fitness) and lifesaving skills are essential to ensure they are ready when faced with any number of possible situations.  Youth members are also encouraged to participate in the weekly Monday, Wednesday and Friday training sessions down at the surf club.  All participants meet at the gear shed at 4.30pm, where the program for the day is discussed before training commencement.
